Black Walnut Inn Cooking School is in Session!
From November to May our guests can join Executive Chef & Owner Kris Utz for a private cooking class in our beautiful kitchen. Classes can be scheduled any day of the week as part of your stay with us and must include 4-14 overnight guests.
Each class is made up of hands-on and demonstration portions. Each guest will get to enjoy the fruits of their hard work and a packet of recipes.
Specific menus will be created for your group around seasonal ingredients. Be sure to check with us a few days before your class so that we can recommend local wines for you to bring along to the class. If you have something different in mind that you don’t see below we are happy to work with you to create a unique class tailored to your tastes.

Seasonal Willamette Valley Dinner
As a fifth generation Oregonian Kris is passionate about local ingredients, sustainable farming and NW Cuisine. He’ll teach you all about the amazing bounty found in the Willamette Valley and explain how you can turn these ingredients into a delightful dinner at home.
Hors d’Oeuvres Party
Do you have an upcoming holiday party? We’ll give you tips and pointers on how to create a small bites menu, time saving tips and wonderful recipes to wow your guests.
Romantic Dinner for Two
Interested in a fabulous dinner just for the two of you? Kris whips up a gourmet dinner that you can prepare with or for that special someone. This one includes his famous Chocolate Pave dessert and is a don’t miss!
Champagne Brunch
We love breakfast here at the bed and breakfast! Kris will show you how easy it is to prepare an elegant brunch in your home kitchen. The focus will be on farm fresh ingredients and time saving techniques to ensure you’re not up all night before your next party.
Pasta
Kris has traveled extensively in Italy and spent several years as a chef at Portland’s Pazzo Ristorante. He’ll bring his passion for simplistic Italian cooking to this course which includes hands on pasta making (it’s not as hard as you think!).
Dundee Hills Wine Dinner
Nestled in the Red Hills of Dundee, The Black Walnut Inn is the perfect place to learn what ingredients go best with our State’s award winning wines. Kris will pair each course with a local wine and teach you the secrets to creating the perfect dinner to showcase the wine you picked up during your visit.
Coastal Bounty Dinner
Kris grew up traveling to the Oregon Coast with his family. He spent most weekend mornings either digging clams, pulling up full crab pots or catching wild salmon in the Pacific Ocean (and on a good day it was all three). He’ll share with you some of his family recipes and secrets to creating an amazing meal based on the many ingredients found just off Oregon’s shores.
Policies
All classes must be booked at least two weeks in advance and are based on availability. The price is $100 per person and class times will be based on your groups individual needs. Cancellations within 14 days of the scheduled course will forfeit 50% of the fees per guest. Classes for two people are available at a cost of $200 per person.
